Dr. Dibyendu Banerjee

Dr. Dibyendu Banerjee, is currently working as Scientist C, Molecular and Structural Biology Division, CSIR-Central Drug Research Institute (CDRI), Lucknow, UP, India. He has done his PhD from School of Life Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India. He is post-graduated in Human Genetics, Dept. of Zoology, Banaras Hindu, University, Varanasi, India. He is a life member of the Society for Biological Chemists (SBC), India and annaual member of AAAS (American Association for the Advancement of Science). His honors and awards won are; 1. Graduate Aptitude Test for Science (GATE) conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur, India, 2000; 2. Recipient of Centre for Advanced Studies Fellowship, Department of Zoology, BHU, Varanasi, India, Sept 2000 to Dec 2001; 3. Recipient of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) Fellowship for research anywhere in India, conducted by CSIR, 2002-2007; 4. Recipient of the RGYI- DBT young investigator grant 2012; and Recipient of the DST-Fastrack young investigator grant 2012. To sum up; 1. Recently discovered and published novel anticancer molecules with activity against colon cancer using pharmacophore based drug screening. 2. I have been granted an Indian patent for a series of anticancer compounds from CSIR-CDRI with activity against pancreatic cancer. 3. I have recently discovered a NCE with broad spectrum activity against both fungi and bacteria, including against MRSA (Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus). 4. I work with a team of Medicinal chemists, Bioinformaticians, Cell biologists, Biochemists, and Veterinarians (for animal models) to discover new anticancer and antibiotic molecules.
