Abstract
Tropical cyclones cause substantial damage to Odisha, one of the coastal states of India, because of the geographical situation and dense population living in the coastal belts. Poor housing is the major cause of increased mortality and morbidity due to cyclones. The cyclone, Phailin, had devastating effects on population of southern parts of Odisha, India, in the year 2013.
