EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
I, Dr. Lachhman Das Singla did Bachelor of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry and Masters in Veterinary Science (M.V.Sc.) in Veterinary Parasitology from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana with Punjab State Marketing Board Scholarship and Junior Research Fellowship from ICAR, New Delhi, respectively. Joined as Veterinary Officer in State Government (Punjab) in January 1992 and Assistant Professor of Veterinary Parasitology in December 1992 at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. Completed Ph.D. in Veterinary Parasitology in 2001 as an inservice candidate and promoted as Associate Professor. Joined as Professor on January 01, 2009. Appointed as Professor-cum-Head, Department of Veterinary Parasitology, College of Veterinary Science, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana, Punjab, India on June 20, 2011 and successfully completed the term on 19th Jun, 2015.
My major responsibilities include teaching, research, extension and administration in Veterinary Parasitology. During the period of more than 24 years of my service under Punjab State Govt., PAU and GADVASU, Ludhiana, I planned, promoted coordinated and conducted research, education and extension on parasitic diseases to minimize economic losses to livestock industry by way of improved diagnosis and control with ultimate aim to enhance the socio-economic status of the farmers of Punjab state.
MAJOR RESEARCH INTERESTS
Epidemiology, pharmacokinetics, chemotherapeutics, diagnostics, immunomodulatory and immunoprophylactic approaches for the management of parasitic infections with special reference to parasites of zoonotic and public health significance. Published over 150 scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings, book chapters, review articles, manuals, bulletins etc.
MEMBERSHIP
Besides being Fellow of National Academy of Veterinary Sciences and Royal Society of Tropical.Medicine and Hygiene (RSTMH), I am member of various international societies including World Association for the Advancement of Veterinary Parasitology (WAAVP) from 1995 onwards up to 2017, Society forConservation of Biology, and Rodent, Insectivore & Scandens Conservation and Information Networks of South Asia (RISCINSA). Serving as Joint Secretary ofIndian Association for the Advancement of Veterinary Parasitology (IAAVP). Previously served as executive council member for five terms. Actively involved in organization of IX (1997) and XIX (2007) National Congresses of Veterinary Parasitology.Willing to work tirelessly for the promotion of the discipline of Veterinary Parasitology through encouraging research and promoting exchange of information and material between students, scholars, scientists and organizations by actively participating in various activities of IAAVP.
PRIORITY AREAS
Trypanosomosis and other tick borne haematozoa, toxoplasmosis, cryptosporidiosis, sarcocystosis and wild life parasitic infections.
AWARDS AND HONOURS
Besides various best Poster/Oral Presentation/Best Research Article Awards, conferred Dr. M.S. Randhawa Medal (2001) by PAU, Ludhiana and Prof. Dr. B.V. Rao Gold Medal (2002) by Indian Veterinary Association and and Siksha Rattan Puruskar (2009) for meritorious services, outstanding performance and remarkable role in Veterinary education and research in the field of Veterinary Parasitology. I was bestowed with a number of prestigious National and International awards including Dr. D. P. Banerjee memorial Oration Award 2013 and the prestigious Smt. Nisha Mani Parija Oration Award-2014 in recognition of valuable contributions and achievements in the field of Veterinary Protozoology and Parasitic Zoonoses, respectively. I bagged international funding on competitive basis from many National and International organizations including Commonwealth Science Council, London, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Bursary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of France Financial Grant, World Association for Advancement of Veterinary Parasitology Scholarships, Higher Education Commission of Pakistan Grant and Indian Council of Agricultural Research grant to attend various international scientific meetings, workshops and trainings at Australia, Canada, China, Denmark, England, France, Italy, Nepal, New Zealand, Pakistan, Scotland, United States of America and Vietnam. Worked as visiting scientist to conduct research on molecular diagnosis of toxoplasmosis at University of Tennessee, USA.
