Diagnostic and Therapeutic Approaches for Migraine Headaches Based on Electrophysiological Signals

Ali Yadollahpour, Maryam Mirzaiyan, Samaneh Rashidi

Abstract

The present study aims to review the recent advances in diagnostic and therapeutic techniques based on electrophysiological signals for chronic headaches, particularly migraine. The associations between electrophysiological signals and cognitive impairments of abnormal brain functions, particularly chronic headache are discussed.

In addition, non-pharmaceutical therapeutic techniques based on electrophysiological signals for these disorders are discussed. Biological biomarkers for early and differential diagnosis of cognitive disorders are reviewed. Furthermore, the recent advances and clinical potentials of electroencephalography-based techniques including neurofeedback treatment as a promising technique for the treatment of chronic headache and migraine are discussed.
