Laparoscopic Peritoneal Pull Through Technique: A Successful Outcome In Vaginal Agenesis

G.S.S. Mohapatra, Amit Agrawal

Abstract

Background Vaginal agenesis occurs in an incidence of 1 in 5000. Many procedures have been described in the past with minimal help and increased morbidity.

Aim Here, we describe a laparoscopic peritoneal pull-through technique in the creation
of neo vagina.

Materials and Methods A total of nine patients with the congenital absence of vagina (MRKH syndrome) were treated with laparoscopic peritoneal pull through technique between 2014 and 2016.

Results This technique has given good results during follow-up. There was evidence of stratified squamous epithelium resembling a normal vagina instead of the peritoneal lining.

Conclusion Hence, we conclude that it is an excellent procedure for providing good vaginal function.
