Dr. Mary Josepha Shery A.V. is an entomologist who has done her works on vectors and pests. Her major work is on transmission of Gemini virus from cassava to mulberry and vice versa. Her field of work is survey and surveillance of pest and disease incidence in mulberry and silkworm and forewarning the pest and disease incidence. She has reported the incidence of Oberea artocarpi, Dialeuropora decempuncta, Pseudodendrtothrips bhatti Kudo, and Holitrichia serrata on mulberry from different locations in Karnataka and Kerala. She has also worked on the effect of JH analogue on spermatogenesis of insects and the study was conducted on Dysdercus cingulatus. She has reported the incidence of cassava mosaic virus variant on mulberry from Kerala where cassava cultivation as a food crop is common. She has also studied the endosymbionts of Bemisia tabaci infecting mulberry and isolated and identified seven bacteria from the mycetomes of B. tabaci infecting mulberry. She has 30 sequences deposited in NCBI as first author and co-author of virus, B. tabaci and endosymbionts of B. tabaci.
She has published 10 papers in National and International journals and presented 09 papers in National and International seminars. She has also worked in Outreach Programme: ICAR Network project on Management of sucking pests in Horticultural Crops and collected B. tabaci from different locations in Kerala. She is the member of different societies viz., Life Member of National Academy of Sericultural Sciences, India (NASSI), Life member of Indian Society for Root Crops (ISRC), Life member of Association for Advancement of Entomology. On her credit she has a disinfectant called "Serifit" a chlorine based disinfectant used in Sericulture developed by Central Silk Board in collaboration with a private company. Majority of her carrier she worked in sericulture extension and is very much interested in the development of sericulture and its expansion in non traditional states. At present she is working as Scientist-D in Silkworm Pathology Laboratory of Central Sericultural Research and Training Institute and working on pathogens of silkworms and its management.
