Dr. Lorena Mathien

Dr. Lorena Mathien is an Assistant Professor of Business in the Business Department at the State University of New York at Buffalo State (Buffalo State). She received her PhD from the State University of New York at Buffalo (UB) in Operations Management and Strategy (minor: Management Information Systems) in 2012, her MBA with a concentration in International Business from UB in 1996, and her BS in Marketing Management from Syracuse University in 1992. She maintains her CPIM (certified in production and inventory management) certification from APICS (American Production and Inventory Control Society) and her PMP (project management professional) certification from PMI (Project Management Institute). She has over 17 years of industry experience and independently contracts on smaller projects with local companies.

Research

Dr. Mathien is currently working on a research stream in logistics outsourcing. Her works in progress include a comprehensive study of logistics outsourcing practices, as well an empirical study of the application of production competence theory to logistics outsourcing. She is presenting an empirical paper on resources and dynamic capabilities in logistic outsourcing decisions in New Orleans in spring 2016. Dr. Mathien recently published a simulated study of inventory management practices in e-business environments. Similarly, she is working on another simulated case study in the copper manufacturing industry.

Service

Dr. Mathien is actively involved in both departmental and institutional service. She serves on the board of the Western New York Chapter of CSCMP (Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals). She volunteers her time to the community as well through Olmstead Parks and Retree WNY.
