Dr. Anton Alexandru Ciucu

Associate Editor

Dr. Anton Alexandru Ciucu, develop his higher education at the Department of Biochemistry, University of Bucharest by obtaining his M.Sc. in 1979. In 1987 he got his Ph.D. in Chemistry, at Polytechnic Institute of Bucharest, Faculty of Chemistry Department of Analytical Chemistry.

Since 2000 he is full professor of Analytical Biochemistry at Faculty of Chemistry Department of Analytical Chemistry, University of Bucharest. In between 1991-1992 he acted as Visiting Professor at University of Louisville, Chemistry Department, USA in the field of electroanalytical chemistry.

Since 1980, the activity of Dr. Ciucu Anton is focused on analytical bioelectrochemistry, modified electrodes, and biosensor development for practical applications in bioanalysis. His main research interests deals with the immobilization of biomolecules and transduction of their molecular recognition properties or catalytic activity for the design of biosensors. The research interests of Dr. Ciucu include the development of nanomaterial-based sensors, electrochemical biosensors, DNA recognition and diagnostics, interfacial design, devices for environmental, security, and clinical monitoring, miniaturization and microfabrication, counterterrorism-detection, the development and characterization of new surfaces for electroanalysis, sensor/recognition coatings. Ciucu's contributions in these directions have been of major importance in the growing popularity of electroanalytical techniques. He has authored over 80 research papers, 6 books, and 2 patents. Dr. Ciucu has presented more than 130 scientific communications, plenary lectures at different international conferences and workshops. He was the recipient of the 2005 International award at "Global 100 Eco-Tech Awards", organized by Japan Association for EXPO 2005 Aichi, Japan.

Ciucu has been a Member of the Advisory Editor Board of Journal of Environmental Science and Engineering, David Publishing Company, since July 2012 and of Journal of Environment and Agricultural Studies from April 2014. Ciucu was Principal Investigator and Co-Principal Investigator of more than 30 national and international multidisciplinary collaborative research programs.
