I'm working as a researcher in Horticultural crops with particular emphasis in vegetables at Fogera Agricultural Research Center (Woreta) of the Ethiopian Institute of Agricultural Research (EIAR). Obtained M.Sc. degree in Plant Sciences (specialization Horticulture) from Wageningen University in The Netherlands by conducting an MSC thesis research on the interaction of Mycorrhizal fungi and Allium species. Studied for a B.Sc. degree (a Gold medalist) in Plant Sciences from Alemaya University of Agriculture in Ethiopia, and also obtained Diploma in plant sciences from the former Awassa college of Agriculture, now Awassa university in Ethiopia. Participated in various short training courses; viz, at Padova, Italy in Allium post harvest (visiting scientist); Nairobi, Kenya in proposal writing for international research project; Rehovot, Israel in Sustainable Horticultural Crop production under Climatic Constraints; Vienna, Austria in Advanced mutation techniques for crop improvement; and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in Research Planning, Monitoring & Evaluation, SAS and Basic Biometrical methods.

Participated in various scientific forums in Ethiopia and served in various ad-hoc and standing committees of research field management, research project development, research directory compilation, promotion, variety release. Member of societies of Horticultural Science ( Ethiopia), crop science ( Ethiopia) and Ethiopians educated in Germany.

Research area focuses on vegetable improvement with particular emphasis on Alliums (garlic, shallot and onion), tomato and pepper production and post-harvest quality. Developed several cultivars of shallot and garlic and recommended improved production and post-harvest handling practices. still the focus is generally to work on breeding and agronomic aspects of Horticultural crops.
